Apr 23 - Aug 10    Youth Employment Program
DEADLINE TO APPLY is TUESDAY MARCH 27, 2018! The Taber Youth Employment Program (a project under the Taber & District Community Adult Learning Association, and is funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy Program), provides youth (ages 15 – 30 years inclusive) who are facing obstacles to employment with an opportunity to participate in an 15-week skills development and work experience program within the community of Taber, Alberta. During the program, participants are paid current provincial minimum wage (Alberta). The program will provide participants with a variety of instructional opportunities in the following areas: Motivation and Mentorship Personal Development Self-Reliance and Budgeting Skills Essential Life Skills and Employability Skills Career Assessments and Personal Health and Well Being which will include nutrition Computer and Technology Employment Readiness Workplace and Social Media Etiquette Post-secondary Tours Portfolio Development Supervised Work Experience Please note that underemployment by definition is not considered as an obstacle for employment. It must be combined with other enumerated reasons. At the time of intake/selection, you must be: a) Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) and not presently in school (grade school or post-secondary) b) A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act c) Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations d) Not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits e) In need of assistance in order to overcome one or more employment barriers which include but are not limited to high school non-completion, disability, Aboriginal origin, residence in a rural or remote location, lone (single) parent, visible or ethnic minority, official language minority community language barriers (i.e. Francophone residing outside of Quebec or Anglophone residing in Quebec), recent immigrant, or other.

Jul 2 - Aug 11    Summer Reading Program - Taber Public Library
Registration required. Ages 5-12. This year's theme is "Feed Your Passions" and TPL is offering six unique one-week programs inspired by what children are most passionate about: fun! There are 6 one-week sessions of the registered daily program open to children ages 5-12 all running from Tuesday-Saturday: July 4-7 “Underwater” July 10-14 “Animals” July 17-21 “Everyday Heroes” July 24-28 “Sports” July 31-August 4 “Space" August 7-11 ”Our Environment” Registration for the daily program begins Friday June 1, 2018. Spots are limited, so stop by the front desk early to register!

Jul 3 - Aug 20    Summer Reading Challenge - Taber Public Library
Ages 5 - 17. Registration required. The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all children and youths ages 5-17 in Taber. After every 5 picture books or 1 chapter book they read, readers registered with the Reading Challenge get the chance to win a pizza party - sponsored by Panago Pizza. The Summer Reading Pizza Party Challenge begins Tuesday July 3, 2018 and the winner of the pizza party will be drawn Tuesday August 21, 2018. Drop by the front desk for more information and to register!

Jul 9 - Aug 17    Safe Haven Summer Day Camp
Safe Haven Summer Day Camp is a fun one week camp for youth ages 6-11 which runs Monday to Thursday 9am-3pm and Fridays 9am-12pm. Campers will participate in various crafts and activities, field trips and swim days. Summer day camp is FREE and includes lunch and snacks!

Jul 10 - Aug 18    Lego Contest - Taber Public Library
We are back for another year of Lego Competition! This year the age categories are: 6-8 9-10 11-12 Stop by any time during the contest to drop off an entry, or to check out the competition. The entries will be displayed in the locked glass cabinets at the front of the building. One winner will be chosen from each age category.

Aug 13    Reading Tents - Taber Public Library
Please pre-register for each session by dropping by the front desk, or calling 403-223-4343. Reading Tents in partnership with Frontier College to reduce the “Summer Slip”. For school aged kids up to grade 6 to participate. From 2:00 pm to approximately 3:30 pm. All registered kids will do crafts, play, receive a free book and read! Participants will be outdoors so please wear appropriate clothing, footwear and have water and sunscreen.

Aug 23    Discovering Dinosaurs Video Conference - Taber Public Library
Ages 5-10. Explore the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology’s world-famous Dinosaur Hall! This tour introduces young participants to the science of palaeontology and to different dinosaurs that lived in ancient Alberta. Each stop explores a different curriculum concept like carnivores and herbivores, predators and prey, or plants and the ancient environment. After the tour there will be lots of time for questions with our dinosaur experts! *recommended for ages 5 - 10 Broadcast from the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology
